Crete is located at the crossroads of the three continents of Europe, Asia and Africa and has an area of 8261 km2 and about 1066 km of coastline. Crete is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The island captivates with natural beauty, the pleasant climate and the hospitality of the inhabitants. Crete’s south fascinates especially the vacationers who want to spend their bathing vacations away from the hustle and bustle. The south coast offers many sandy beaches, small bays, fascinating landscape and Cretan everyday life.

Enjoy the beautiful weather, the breathtaking view over the sea. Enjoy the sheep resting at the next bend in the road or take a discovery tour to the island’s archaeological sites. Admire also the beautiful cities of the island: Rethymnon, Chania or Heraklion.
Our excursion tip from Frangokastello: Drive up the winding road to Kalikratis, enjoy the breathtaking view down to the wide plain with the old Venetian fort.
At the top of Kalikratis, take a break at a small, quaint herb shop and experience the simple, primitive life of the mountains.
Continue towards Aigiropouli with its waterfalls and a trout pond or towards Lappa, an ancient town. Admire an ancient Roman floor mosaic, small churches and a new avocado store that successfully sells cosmetic products based on avocado oil.
Continue until you reach the major highway. Turn left, take a detour to Lake Kournas, the eye of Crete.
Briefly visit Georgiopoulis, which used to be a small sleepy village and then head towards Vrises, Askifou, Imbros back to Frangokastello.
If you turn right at the major highway, you will soon reach the beautiful town of Rethymnon. Take a break here and walk through the small streets. Then drive towards Plakias and visit the monastery of Preveli or the beautiful horse farm near Plakias. Then go back via Selia to Rodakino and then to Frangokastello.
